Crowns and Bridges

Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, discoloration and others. If you feel your smile isn’t what it once was, crowns can help you recover your smile. If your dentist notices that a tooth is decayed or seems weakened/cracked or missing a Crown or Bridge may be necessary to make sure that there are no additional problems with the tooth. In cases like this a filling, bonding or Veneer will not be sufficient.

Crowns

A dental crown is a restoration that can be used for a number of purposes. One of the most common uses of a dental crown is to restore a tooth that is significantly damaged, decayed or root canal treated. The crown is custom-made to fit over the entire tooth, starting at the gum line, in order to restore the tooth to its original shape and size. Dental crowns can be made of gold, porcelain or porcelain fused to metal; porcelain crowns are popular because they match the natural color and appearance of your teeth. Our Dentist will help you determine which type of dental crown is right for your smile. You would come in for a preparation appointment where we would prep the tooth and take a mold to send to the lab. We would fit a temporary crown if needed. A couple weeks later you would return to us to have the crown fit once it has is returned from the lab.

Bridges

Dental bridges, in addition to replacing several missing teeth, can also restore the shape of your face by providing additional support to your bone arches. If you are missing a single tooth or multiple teeth in a row, we may recommend a dental bridge to restore your smile. A bridge is a fixed dental restoration, meaning it is non-removable. The dental bridge is anchored in place through the use of two dental crowns, which are custom-made to fit your smile and are placed on the teeth or dental implants next to the space left by the missing tooth. These crowns hold the artificial tooth in place to restore your smile, ensuring that your restoration will not easily shift or come loose. It typically requires only two visits to our practice to complete a dental bridge. Dental bridges are designed to last for many years and to restore the function, beauty and health of your smile.

We can offer a same day service at our sister practice in Matamata – Applecross House Dentists! Meaning we do Crowns & Bridges in one single day visit! Let us introduce to you the state-of-the-art Technology called CEREC.

After the preparation, the Dentist will then do a Cerec Scan. This wand like camera digitally scans inside your mouth creating a 3D image.
The design that is created on the computer is then milled from a ceramic block that is specific to the patients tooth shade for a natural look.
The Dentist then designs your customized Crown/Bridge on the computer.
The Crown or Bridge is then fitted a little while later. No temporary needed. No follow up needed.

With CEREC you can rely on quality that has been proven a million times over in the practice. Your Smile will be just as lovely many years later as it is directly after receiving the Crown or Bridge.
